
Coffee Train P312
Salvaged from death by rust in a Brazil warehouse, freighted to the UK by sea in 2000, and, after two years being renovated, this extraordinary machine is a cross between a small submarine and a missile.
It is believed to be the only complete and running example of the 300 or so Porsche tractors designed to work on coffee plantations and exported to Brazil (Note: some P312 have been reported as still running in Brazil but may have been converted to diesel).
The brilliant orange tractor looks like the ultimate in tractor aerodynamics, but its smooth lines were designed to avoid damage to the delicate coffee plants. Likewise, it is unique in the Porsche tractor heritage in having a petrol engine – the coffee plantation owners did not want diesel fumes near their plants…
